Bari Jill Coslow

A funny thing happened on the way to the library; Bari decided she wanted to become a librarian.  Prior to becoming a Youth Services Librarian, Bari was a New York City Public School Teacher.  Upon graduating from Queens College, CUNY, with her MLS Degree as a School Media Specialist, she took course work to complete her Children’s and Youth Services Post Graduate Certificate.  Formerly, she was the children’s librarian at North Brunswick Library in New Jersey and currently works at the Ocean County Library in New Jersey.

Bari’s favorite past times include reading and sharing books with friends, family and her niece and nephew, browsing the book shelves of books stores and libraries, and surfing the Internet.  Her family likes to say that if the information or product is out there, she will find it.  Many family and friends seem to come out of the woodwork when they are in need of information.  As a child, Bari could always be found with her nose in a book.  When her students found out that her parents did not allow her to have a television is her bedroom, they were shocked and felt sorry for her.  Funny thing is, if she had a television, it is quite possible her love of information might not have developed.  Instead, her passion could have been watching Susan Lucci as Erica Kane on All My Children.  Imagine how heartbroken she would be now that it’s off the air, if she didn’t have the love of information.

Gaining valuable experience is key to landing a dream job. Bari’s dream job is to work with young people, whether it is assisting them in choosing the perfect book to read for pleasure, researching a topic or learning to access online resources.  While attending graduate school for her MLS degree, Bari gained valuable customer service skills while working as a bookseller at Borders bookstore in New York City. While there, she was assigned to assist customers in the children's and young adult departments. In addition she volunteered at the New York Public Library, focusing her efforts on their children and young adults, such as: creating and developing events, conducting community outreach, as well as conducting reader advisory interviews.

Currently, Bari is a Youth Services Librarian 2 with the Ocean County Library in New Jersey.

Bari is a member of New Jersey Library Association and Florida Library Association
